LONELINESS BEYOND OXFORD CITY

Loneliness is not confined to Oxford city and Archway is keen to develop services elsewhere in response to local need.

If you live in Oxfordshire, recognise the need in your area and are interested in developing a service locally we would be pleased to hear from you to discuss possible options for responding to those hurt by loneliness.

BEYOND OXFORDSHIRE If you live further away we would be interested in offering consultation and advice on setting up a service in your locality.

New fortnightly group in Abingdon

July 2008 saw the start of Archway in Abingdon (Oxfordshire), developed in partnership with 35 Ock Street Hospitality Centre. A bi-monthly Friday Social is enjoyed and appreciated by those seeking to reduce feelings of loneliness and gain confidence in meeting new people. It is our longer term aim to develop a befriending service and to facilitate access for those living in neighbouring rural communities by expanding our transport provision. We would be pleased to hear from car owners willing to be volunteer drivers (mileage allowance given) and anyone interested in becoming a volunteer befriender.

In 1990, following a television documentary about our work, a branch of Archway was established in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. They have subsequently gained their own registered charity status and company registration, and operate independently of Archway Oxford, using the Archway name.

They have Drop-In Coffee mornings in Rotherham Minster on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10.00a.m. to 12.30p.m., a Thursday evening social once a month and occasional events and outings.
